It's more likely than you'd think! In fact, you probably should have seen it coming. I mean come on, it's Japan.
It's time to jump back into J-pop with Momoiro Clover Z's latest release, "Mouretsu Uchuu Koukyoukyoku Dainana Gakushou 'Mugen no Ai'" (translating to "Intense Universe Symphony No. 7 'Infinite Love'), otherwise known as the longest title for a J-pop song ever. It's commonly shortened by foreigners to "Mouretsu," or "Intense."
This song fits perfectly into the norm of Momoiro Clover Z songs; it is fun, weird, dramatic, and almost frantic. First they were ninjas. Then they were power rangers. This time they're pirate space aliens. Does it make sense? Hardly. But that's what makes it a Momoiro Clover video.
Momoclo's songs are very suited to being theme songs, so it's great that this one is! On December 22nd 2011, the group announced that it would be providing the theme song for the new anime "Mourestu Uchuu Kaizoku." The anime is indeed about space pirates - so really, the theme of the music video does make sense in context. But the fact that this group was chosen for the theme song reflects the fact that they're always up for odd and unpredictable things!
The video takes a huge chunk out of the movie "ET" by showing the members riding on bicycles through space multiple times. They may be referencing other movies during the scenes when the girls are flooded by a white backlight and floating through space, or hooked up to the spaceship via wires to their brains, but I honestly haven't watched enough alien movies to know, myself. However, they do play into an infamous alien trope, as one of the members is beamed onto their ship.
All in all, this song is a fun listen and the music video is even more fun to watch, in all of its strange yet fascinating glory.
